Google tends to make software available to the public before it's fully baked. Sometimes this works out eventually, as with Android, Chrome, and Gmail. Sometimes it doesn't, as with Wave, Buzz, and anyone remember Lively? It will be awhile before we'll see which group Google Music falls into, since this Web-based music player is still at the early beta stage and only available to invited participants. Though Google Music competes directly with the recent Amazon Cloud Player, it lacks some essentials found in Amazon's offering—most notably an integrated music store, and control over what you upload to the service. And we can't forget the 300-pound gorilla in the room—iTunes. When Apple finally launches an online version, it could certainly make all others irrelevant, as iTunes has for downloadable music.
