McKinley served as our 25th President.
McKinley was in an era after depression, where economic advancement kept chugging along, and times seemed good. One thing I didn't like that he did was he kept corporations relatively unchained.
It was under his reign that we saw the annexation of Hawaii. Now Americans had a nice vacation spot to go to. In all seriousness, he did extend the Chinese Exclusion Act to the islands which kept Chinese people from immigrating there as well. Pretty awful move.
The most notable event was the Spanish-American War which we kicked Spain's ass in a matter of months. We then acquired Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines for a little bit of money. Ironically though as a country once owned by an Imperial nation, we had now become one ourselves.
McKinely was yet another president who publicly stood up for the rights of black people, but did little about it. He appointed many black people roles in government, but there were still many crimes committed on the group of people during this time.
Despite a questionable presidency, after being re-elected he was assassinated by anarchist Leon Czolgosz. Was he a bad president? I don't think so, but he's about mid-ground.
