Chanel Pre-Fall
Far from Karl Lagerfeld's last Chanel show at the extravagant Grand Palais, the setting for the pre-fall 2011 collection was much more subdued at the Métier d'Arts. With rows of patterned pillows to sit on and stained glass tables, the atmosphere was a cozy one of about 136 guests. The theme for the show was focused on the Byzantine era and the Empress Theodora.
A Byzantine mosaic of the Empress Thoedora. Lagerfeld is quoted having said, "Theodora was a circus artist who became empress, like Chanel, who was a little singer and became a fashion empress".
Throughout the show, Chanel connoisseurs took note of the classic Chanel Gripoix jewelry which was inspired by Paris-Byzance by Coco Chanel herself. Lagerfeld was also quoted having called the show "Granny Takes A Trip To Constantinople". which you can see in the exotic embellishments, perfectly tailored peacoats, mutlicolored knits, chunky gold embellishments, the classic quilted bag, black leather gloves, and old-school square-toed boots (something I hope becomes an instant trend, they are trés chic!). On top of every models head was a messy ballerina beehive of a bun with a band of glittery embellishments across. The clothes were absolutely beautiful and absolutely couture.
Dark green off-shoulder dress with embellishments all over and gold gladiator sandals.
A classic chunky Chanel suit with multicolored beads, red suede boots with some sparkle and matching red tights.
An elaborate black coat with a wrap-a-round belt, chinky knit leggings, and gladiator sandals.
Lots of patterns on this high off-shoulder red and black sweater paired with a dark green and black skirt, navy boots and tights, gold chunky bracelets and an evening clutch.
A look of casual elegance with this gold embellished jacket, black leather gloves, dark green and black harem pants, gold sandals, and an evening clutch.
A chunky peacoat with jeweled buttons, fluffed up scarf, fur purse, and square-toe nude boots.
What do you think of this show?
