This New Year's Eve, one doesn't have to be the loneliest number. When the clock strikes midnight, crowds will gather in cities around the world to celebrate the arrival of 1-1-11 in a wild variety of international traditions. Forget about waiting for the ball to drop in New York's Times Square. With the list we've compiled, you can sing folk songs around the bonfires of Reykjavik, rave the night away on the beaches of Goa, ensure good luck by eating grapes in Barcelona and watch fireworks in magnificent settings that include Table Mountain, Niagara Falls and the Austrian Alps.

Reinforcing its status as a perennial party town, Las Vegas welcomes 300,000 revelers to ring in the New Year. Hotels, clubs and bars take it to the limit with special shows, but many lock their doors around the midnight hours, so you'll need to decide whether you want to be in or out. We recommend out, since the four-mile-long Strip becomes a vehicle-free promenade where you can drink, mingle and watch fireworks shot off from surrounding rooftops. Meanwhile, downtown, Fremont Street presents its raucous TributePalooza with bands including Fan Halen and Led Zepagain. And if you're looking for the real thing, Jay-Z and Coldplay are scheduled to headline (onstage together) at the new Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. We hear that it's invitation only, so hurry up and find a celebrity BFF to get you on the list.

Southern Comfort at the Stroke of Midnight

The South may be known for its genteel hospitality, but when the time is right, Southerners love to kick up their heels. In Savannah, that time is December 31, when locals gather for City Market's annual outdoor street party. Kids' activities are aplenty, and the live music that starts at nine is followed by a fireworks display shot off the pier on neighboring Tybee Island. While there's nothing wrong with being a landlubber, we suggest booking a cruise on a traditional stern wheel riverboat for dinner, Champagne toasts and the best fireworks views. Then on January 1, spend the noon hour watching participants with titles from Shrimp to Moby Dick (depending on how many years they've taken part) brave chilly river waters during the Polar Bear Plunge.

Long gone are the days when the most exciting thing to do at Niagara Falls was keep your eyes peeled for a daredevil plummeting over the cascades in a barrel. The falls are now the site of one of the biggest outdoor New Year's Eve parties in Canada. More than 30,000 people gather in Queen Victoria Park to eat, drink and enjoy the free New Year's Eve Concert Extravaganza, organized by the Niagara Parks Commission. Festivities take place against the stunning backdrop of Niagara Falls, which is illuminated as part of the 28th annual Winter Festival of Lights, a November 6 to January 31 display of more than three million lights on a five-kilometer route. Brightening the night even further, the 9 p.m. and midnight Fireworks over the Falls are so much a part of the country's New Year's Eve tradition that they are televised nationwide.

Do It Yourself Fireworks

With a free-for-all of hand-held fireworks competing with an official midnight display over Prague Castle and the Vltava River, Prague is rightly known for its wild New Year's Eve. But this is a city that has something for everyone. All day long the Christmas Markets are still in full swing, as colorful wooden huts sell handicrafts, hot food and warm drinks in Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square. Culture lovers can take in the afternoon performance of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra at Rudolfinum and then attend the New Year's Eve gala ball at the Prague State Opera. As for those who like their festivities on the rowdy side, the action is in the bars, clubs, and prime fireworks viewing spots: Charles Bridge and the town squares. For crowd-controlled celebrations, dinner cruises ply the Vltava River with music and dancing into the wee hours.

Kitzbuhel, Austria hosts one of the finest fireworks displays in the Alps every New Year's Eve.
AUSTRIA

Kitzbühel
Heating up the Slopes

www.kitzbuehel.com

For New Year's Eve in a quaint fairy tale setting, Kitzbühel is our top pick. This 9th-century town has been attracting glamorous revelers ever since Kirk Douglas and Coco Chanel put it on the see-and-be-seen map. A romantic mood takes over as the clock ticks toward midnight, with restaurants and hotels hosting gala dinners and horse-drawn sleighs jingling past medieval houses on traffic-free, cobblestone streets. The big draw, though, takes place on the Hahnenkamm race course. Drinking hot wine and singing folk songs, crowds gather at the base to watch members of the Rote Teufel ski school. Beneath a fireworks display (one of the best in the Alps) choreographed to music, the skiers welcome the New Year with an unforgettable torch-lit performance on the slopes.

Fireworks on New Year's Eve in Reykjavik, Iceland
ICELAND

Reykjavik
Cold Temperatures, Hot Nightlife

In Iceland, New Year's Eve traditions offer the chance to brighten up one of the darkest days of the year. With little more than four hours of daylight and sunset before 4 p.m. on December 31, the celebration starts early, beginning with 6 p.m. mass at Reykjavik Cathedral. Locals attend or listen in on the radio, then share a meal with family and friends before heading outdoors for neighborhood bonfires. Visitors wandering the city may easily come across one of these flame-fueled gatherings, where drinking, folk songs and even elves and trolls are not uncommon. While all of this may seem somewhat sedate, don't underestimate a country where there are no restrictions on the holiday sale of fireworks. As for Icelanders wielding firecrackers, they're not the only complement to Reykjavik's official, spectacular pyrotechnics display. Sometimes the Northern Lights get in on the act as well.

The picturesque Victoria & Albert Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa

SOUTH AFRICA

Cape Town
Wild along the Waterfront

In Cape Town, summertime means surf, suntans and a hot-and-happening New Year's Eve. The entire area is famous for its music events, from the Kirstenbosch Gardens New Year's Eve Concert to the multi-genre Rezonance New Year's Eve Festival offering the ultimate trance and chillout experience. But as midnight nears, most people head for the Victoria & Albert Waterfront. Lively with bars and restaurants year-round, this former fishing terminal brings 2010 to a close against the magnificent backdrop of Table Mountain, as street performers and live music lead up to midnight fireworks over the city. Make sure to save some energy for New Year's Day, since many locals consider this the real celebration. Dating back to the 19th century, the Minstrel Carnival features more than 10,000 costumed musicians, singers and dancers parading in the streets, giving New Orleans and Rio a run for their money.

Dust off your tartan and raise a glass of single malt. It's time for New Year's Eve in Edinburgh. Billed as the biggest New Year's Eve festival in the world, five-day Hogmanay kicks off with the Hog the Stage new band competition and a torchlight parade whose river of fire winds through the city. As for the midnight hour, the choices are many. Hit the live music, DJs and outdoor bars at the massive Street Party. Attend Concert in the Gardens, where headliners Biffy Clyro and The Charlatans will rock out pre- and post-midnight against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. Or tackle tradition by learning folk dancing at the popular Keilidh. No matter which venue you choose, when the clock strikes the magic hour you will be in view of fireworks launched from numerous sites including the castle. Afterward, be prepared for the kissathon that accompanies the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."

New Year's Eve on La Rambla in Barcelona, Spain

SPAIN

Barcelona
Fare Thee Well, Old Night
A marketing ploy by grape growers following freak weather conditions and a bumper harvest in the early 20th century, "eating of grapes" is now a beloved Nochevieja (Old Night) tradition. When the clock strikes midnight, you must eat one grape per chime, with each grape signifying good luck for the twelve months of the upcoming year. Before this take place, Barcelona locals dressed in bright costumes take to the streets and main plazas, and after the midnight fireworks have exploded, the real party starts in the city's bars, where music, dancing, tapas and sparkling cava wine keep the festivities going until dawn. If you manage to stay awake that long, head to the beach for a breakfast of hot chocolate and churros as the sun rises.

A raucous outdoor New Year's Eve celebration in Goa, India

INDIA

Goa
Stark Raving Mad under the Stars

Gaining notoriety as a turn-on-tune-in-drop-out hippie paradise in the 1960s, Goa seems to use New Year's Eve to keep its free-living reputation alive. Backpackers flock here for psychedelic trance raves in the open air — insiders tell us "The Hill Top" is the place to be. This Indian state is also a favorite destination for Bollywood stars, whose New Year's Eve antics throughout Goa serve up plenty of fodder for the tabloids. As for the locals, they generally keep to their own traditions with New Year's balls in nearly every brightly decorated village. If you're lucky, you might be invited to share a glass of fenny, a regional brew made from guava, coconut or cashew nuts.

Source: screencrave.com | Last week, we brought you the top 10 most anticipated films of the summer and now it’s time to do the opposite. We’re counting down the crappiest movies of the season and no one is spared. Jennifer Aniston’s not safe from our wrath, Katherine Heigl definitely doesn’t get a free pass, and MacGruber…is f*cking MacGruber!! These films are some of the most unexpected, unwanted, and most importantly unnecessary films of the summer and it’s time to put them and their stars on notice…

10. The Switch

Over the past few years Jennifer Aniston’s films have been on rom-com repeat. In her latest flick, The Switch she uses the age old body swapping format with Patrick Wilson and Jason Bateman’s ‘man-juice’ then throws in the whole “I’m secretly in love with my best friend gimmick.” How many times have we seen this storyline?

* Chance of Enjoyment: 5/10
* Chance of Making Money: 6/10
* Chance of Bombing: 4/10
* Release Date: August 20, 2010

Total Score: 15/30

9. Marmaduke

We’re all down for nostalgia but who thought a live action version of Marmaduke was a good idea? Most importantly who thought he should sound like a stoned surfer courtesy of Owen Wilson? The CGI for this film looks horrible and how dare they resort Kiefer Sutherland to playing a common household pet! He’s saved this country too many times to be subjected to this.

* Chance of Enjoyment: 3/10
* Chance of Making Money: 8/10
* Chance of Bombing: 5/10
* Release Date: June 4, 2010

Total Score: 16/30

8. Jonah Hex

This may be a shock to you but jonah hex trailer coming 16 4 10 kc 340x227 The Top Ten Worst Movies of Summer 2010Jonah Hex is still coming out next month despite Warner Bros’ nonexistent marketing for it. It’s being treated like the red-haired stepchild of the studio. The first trailer for the film was released last month and from what we’ve seen it doesn’t look that impressive.

* Chance of Making Money: 6/10

* Release Date: June 18, 2010

Total Score: 18/30

7. MacGruber

What year is it? Are we in the 1990’s when SNL-based movies were all the rage? Why the hell did they decide to take their MacGruber sketch to the big screen? It’s a good 15 years too late. If that wasn’t dumb enough, they also cast Ryan Phillippe, who’s obviously allergic to comedic timing in a supporting role. The horror!

* Chance of Making Money: 4/10
* Chance of Bombing: 9/10
* Release Date: May 21, 2010

Total Score: 18/30

6. Dinner for Schmucks

Dinner for Schmucks is an remake of a funny French film that got sh*tted on so we could see Steve Carell and Paul Rudd together again. We love these guys but the trailer for the movie is beyond corny and it doesn’t look the least bit entertaining. All they did was take a group of comedic actors, drop them in a film and say, “Hey, we hope this works!” Guess what? IT DOESN’T!

* Chance of Enjoyment: 4/10
* Chance of Making Money: 8/10
* Chance of Bombing: 7/10
* Release Date: July 23, 2010

Total Score: 19/30

5. Killers

Haven’t we already seen this sh*t?! Katherine Heigl is Jennifer Aniston’s apprentice when it comes to remaking the same movie over and over again. This time she brought Ashton Kutcher as her partner in crime for the action comedy Killers, which looks like Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz’s Knight and Day but with less talent.

* Chance of Enjoyment: 3/10
* Chance of Making Money: 7/10
* Chance of Bombing: 9/10
* Release Date: June 4, 2010

Total Score: 19/30

4. Letters to Juliet

Someone recently asked us when Letters to Juliet would be airing on the Lifetime cable network and they were dead serious. They didn’t know it was a theatrical release and we can see why. The film’s emotional, formulaic, and marketed towards single women who are adamant viewers of “Army Wives.”

* Chance of Enjoyment: 5/10
* Chance of Making Money: 4/10
* Chance of Bombing: 10/10
* Release Date: May 14, 2010

Total Score: 19/30

3. Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore

When did Cats and Dogs 2 go into production? We weren’t even aware that a sequel had been greenlit. Perhaps the marketing for the film will step up as we get closer to its release date but as of now it’s not even a blip on our radar. This is the second talking animal film we’ve put on this list, when we’ll they learn? We don’t like them. They’re creepy.

Chance of Enjoyment: 5/10
Chance of Making Money: 7/10
Chance of Bombing: 9/10
Release Date: July 30, 2010

Total Score: 21/30

2. Takers

Takers stars Paul Walker, Hayden Christensen, Tip “Ti” Harris, and Chris Brown also known as surfer boy, wooden boy, southern boy, and the boy who always sounds like he has gum in his mouth. The producers got the worst actors in the world in the same place at the same time. When their bad performances combine on screen we’re pretty sure the earth will explode.

* Chance of Enjoyment: 9/10
* Chance of Making Money: 3/10
* Chance of Bombing: 10/10
* Release Date: August 20, 2010

Total Score: 22/30

1. Piranha 3-D

Piranha 3D doesn’t take itself too seriously, which could be a blessing or a curse depending on how you look at it. Remember how much internet buzz Snakes on a Plane got before it was released and it became one of the biggest bombs of 2006? Piranha may be an online phenomenon but everyone’s not down with that 2 dollar CGI that looks like it came from a SyFy original movie.

Chance of Enjoyment: 9/10
Chance of Making Money: 5/10
Chance of Bombing: 10/10
Release Date: August 27, 2010

Total Score: 24/30

What movie do you think should have made the list? What movie should be removed?

Source: indyposted.com | This year Oprah Winfrey pulled out all the stops when celebrating her annual “Favorite Things” episode, giving out a plethora of thoughtful and sometimes extremely lavish gifts to her audience. The over-the-top nature of some of the gifts is thought to be due to this being her final season, and her last “Favorite Things” giveaway. Here are our top 10 favorites from Oprah’s Favorite Things 2010 show.

10. 5-year Netflix Membership

Netflix may have been the true big winners in this particular gift, given the massive promotional boost that comes with a recommendation by Oprah Winfrey. Still, 5 years of movies and TV, both delivered home and streamed online, is a gift worth cherishing. And the Netflix service is a well-oiled machine. Even at its cheapest, a year’s worth of Netflix costs about $107. So for the simplest-featured account, you could expect to shell out $535 for 5 years. Not too shabby a prize!

9. Nike “Free Run+” Shoes

35 years of research have culminated in Nike’s “Free” technology, which Oprah claims is the next best thing to being barefoot. Designed for free running, the names of the game with this shoe are cushion, traction, and protection. The shoe, which retails for $85, strengthens muscles in the feet and ultimately leads to a more effective workout. And in an array of vibrant colors, these sneakers are visually appealing and really stand out.

8. Tory Tote and Reva Ballerina Flat by Tory Burch

This one proved to be a massive fan favorite. “Everyone loves Tory Burch,” Oprah asserts, and she might just be right. The tote was constructed in grey flannel with silver leather accents to commemorate the 25th anniversary – i.e. silver anniversary – of Oprah’s show. To complete an ensemble, Oprah threw in matching grey flannel Reva ballerina flats, a Tory Burch signature. Worth $250 for the tote; $195 for the flats.

7. Breville Panini Press from Williams-Sonoma

Yum. Oprah gave the gift of delicious hot sandwiches – of which this panini press can cook 4 at a time! Williams-Sonoma considers it the perfect solution for quick family meals or casual entertaining. It also doubles as an indoor grill with some great features for healthier cooking, like a specially-angled surface that lets fats drip away from grilling meats. (It can also be kept flat to seal in juices.) It’s an all-in-one solution for great paninis, since you can grill vegetable and meat ingredients before assembling the sandwich and using the machine to give it a perfect sear. $99.95 at Williams-Sonoma

6. Limited Edition 25th Anniversary “Oprah” Watch by Philip Stein

A gift that’s likely to appeal more to females, but must be mentioned for its incredible worth of $2,475 and it’s chic style, is the limited edition 25th anniversary “Oprah” watch by designer Philip Stein. As the name suggests, it’s designed only to celebrate Oprah’s 25th year. It’s diamond-encrusted – 58 hand-set diamonds in all – and tells time in two time zones. Such a great gift for ladies on the go, and on the road.

5. Judith Ripka Eclipse Earrings

Alright…this one’s undeniably girly, but it’s also undeniably gorgeous! Canary crystal stones and white sapphires set in sterling silver sparkle like nobody’s business and set off any outfit. They’re worth about $525 and can be seen in greater detail at JudithRipka.com. Simply stunning.

4. elfa décor Custom-Built Container Store Closet

elfa décor make some of the most eye-catching and functional closet storage systems around. And a custom-built beauty courtesy of Oprah is worth $1000. elfa décor closets put an end to closet chaos and instill a sense of serenity and order to any clothes and accessory storage effort. Organization reigns supreme, but the aesthetics are worth their weight in gold, too. Lucky winner!

3. Nikon D3100 Digital SLR Camera

At a cool $700, this impressive camera, which hit the market in August, boasts 14.2 megapixels. It has a 23.1 x 15.4 mm CMOS sensor and takes large photos at a resolution of 4,608 x 3,072 pixels, medium photos at 3,456 x 2,304 pixels, and small photos at 2,304 x 1,536 pixels. It’s a recipe for crisp, beautiful photographs and now we know it’s Oprah endorsed!

2. Sony BRAVIA LX900 HDTV with 3D

$3,600 of state-of-the-art television enjoyment was up for grabs on Oprah’s list. The LX900 is the highest rated 3D TV on the market, offering both gripping 3D viewing and regular viewing. In addition? The audience got a Sony BDP-S570 3D Blu-ray Disc Player and three 3D movies to get them started.

1. Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas Cruise

Ice skating, zip lines, rock climbing, dancing ball rooms, 3D movie theater, and a park…at sea? That’s what the Allure of the Seas offers, the largest cruise ship currently in existence. Oprah gave away a 7 day at-sea adventure and, courtesy of United Airlines, air transportation to and from the cruise. There was no approximate monetary value given for this particular gift, but the least expensive 7 day Caribbean cruise on this ship goes for $765.00.
